In Te Maunga we have been doing measurement. We learnt about perimeter and area. If you were to measure a fence then you would measure the perimeter, which is the outside and the area would be the inside. My favourite part was taking pictures for my DLO. Have you ever learnt about measurement?
Kia ora! I am a year 4-5 student in Te Maunga at Paihia School, New Zealand. My teachers are Mrs Pou and Mr Ngata.

Matariki Friday
In Te Maunga we have been doing Matariki activities. We learnt about some different Matariki traditions. One thing I really liked doing was making poi. It was very fun. Next time I'll try harder to tie my poi properly because it kept coming apart.

Wonderful measurement!
In Te Maunga we have been doing measurement. We learnt about time, degrees (celcius) and how to measure things with different objects or even your hand, finger or foot. My favourite part was when we got to make our own paper clocks. I tried hard to follow direct instructions. Have you ever learnt about measurement?
Extraordinary Astronomy!
In Te Maunga we have been doing Astronomy. We learnt about planets and stars. One thing I really liked learning about was how the moon is made out of bits of earth. I tried really hard to quote directly from the text. Have you ever learnt about Astronomy?

Outstanding Team Building!
In Te Maunga we have been doing team building activities. We learnt how to communicate properly. One thing that I really liked was doing and activity called Air Band where we had to choose any song and act it out (one person had an air guitar, one person was playing air drums, another person had to lip sync the words to the song and another person could dance, conduct or do whatever they wanted.) It was very fun. I tried hard to share my ideas in the most understandable way possible.
Fun Sea Activities!
A couple of weeks ago in Te Maunga, we did an activity about sea life. I learnt that there's such a thing as a yellow bellied sea snake! When we finished our slide presentation, we got to do some really fun sea-related activities.

Our Amazing Research Project
In Te Maunga we have been doing research projects. First we had to buddy up with someone (I went with Kora). Then we had to pick an animal to research about and after that we had to gather information. Mine and Kora's research project was about eagle rays. I learnt that eagle rays grow to a maximum length of five metres.

Check Out This Amazing Reading Post
In Te Maunga we did character descriptions. We had to read 4 descriptions about separate characters. They were The Grand High Witch, Willy Wonka, Miss Trunchbull and Miss Honey. We learnt how to describe a character with lots of detail. After we filled in the slides we had to draw a character from the story, one from a movie we liked and a made up one from your imagination. My favourite part was drawing because I really like to draw.
Wonderful Statistics
In Te Maunga we have been learning about statistics. All we had to do was pick a question to ask the class. It could be any question but not a yes or no question. We had to get into pairs and my buddy was Kova-Rose. We decided to ask a question and give people options. The question we chose was “What is your favourite ice-cream out of hokey-pokey, mint chocolate chip, chocolate and cookies and cream?” The most chosen ice cream was cookies and cream with 21 votes. Chocolate got 8, mint choc chips got 13 and hokey-pokey got 8. We had to find a way to gather our data so Kova and I got four pieces of paper and wrote the ice cream names at the top of the paper and went around the entire class and wrote down the names that chose which ice-cream. Then we had to transfer our data to our chromebooks and make it into a bar graph. We also had to write a little explanation each to say what we learnt and what we maybe could’ve done better.

Pepeha Art That Will Blow Your Mind!
In Te Maunga we have been learning about Kowhaiwhai patterns and doing some Pepeha Art. First we drew our maunga/awa in our book as a practice. Then we had to get a piece of paper and copy the drawing onto the piece of paper. Later, we drew on some kowhawhai patterns with a pencil. After all that, we had to write a whakatauki on our art. My whakatauki said “Kia mau ki te tokanga nui a noho” meaning there's no place like home. I tried hard to keep inside the lines.
